FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (F.A.Q.'s)

Is the school affiliated with any professional organizations such as AMS or AMI?

RMPS is affiliated as a corresponding school with the American Montessori Society (A.M.S.) RMPS teachers are members of the Canadian Council of Montessori Teachers (C.A.M.T.) and the Montessori Teachers Association of North America (M.T.N.A.). In addition, we are members of the Ontario Federation of Independant Schools (O.F.I.S).

Does the school provide snack or lunch?

Children who attend half-days bring one snack and a drink. Children who attend RMPS for a full day or extended day, bring their own lunch, two snacks as well as two drinks. Nutritious, well-balanced, litter-less lunches may be eaten in school; therefore cake, cookies, candy, chips or soft drinks are not allowed. Please include fruits, vegetables, milk and juice as daily lunch items. Please provide glass pyrex containers for microwave use. (No plastic containers will be accepted). Please make sure all personal items are labelled.

My child suffers from a severe food allergy what is the school policy/protocol?

RMPS is a peanut/nut free environment. If your child suffers from a severe allergy such as peanut butter/nut allergies, please inform the office when registering your child so that we may post appropriate posters and inform other parents. Also ensure that the appropriate medication is on hand to deal with such an occurrence for the first day of school.

How are birthdays celebrated in the Montessori Classroom?

Birthday celebrations are marked by serving trays of nutrional foods. Parents are asked to first check with their child's classroom teachers before sending food to school. Children sing a traditional Montessori song as well as the popular birthday songs. Birthday celebrations are limited to daily snack times and cannot exceed 1/2 hour in length. Parents are welcome to participate, be sure to coordinate dates and times with your child's teacher.

Does the school provide transportation?

Parents are responsible for arranging the transportation of their children to and from the school.

What programs does the school offer?

RMPS offers three program options. All programs are based on and require (5) five-day attendance. Due to the Montessori Method of Observation two and three-day attendance is not consistence with the pedagogical method. The program choices are as follow:

5 days a week - Casa Half-day program: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

5 days a week - Casa Full-day program: 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

5 days a week - Casa Extended -day program: 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL The teacher is in the classroom, ready to receive extended-day students only by 8:00 a.m. Students enrolled in the full-day program are expected to arrive no earlier than 8:50 a.m. in order to maintain proper student-teacher ratios. The Half-day program is normally reserved for younger children (2 yrs - 3 yrs). At the end of the day children are picked up by their parents from the classroom and signed out prior to leaving the school grounds. Children who are enrolled in the extended day program will be picked up by 4:55 p.m. The school closes promptly at 5:00 p.m.
